Concert Band

Concert Band is made up of middle school students in their 3rd, 4th, and 5th year of playing. Rehearsals consist of concert band literature with an emphasis on developing technique and musicality. Performances throughout the year include (but are not limited to) D45 Fest, Band Day, Winter Concert, Pep Notes performances, Band-O-Rama, Spring Concert, and the Lilac Parade. Students in Concert Band select their lesson preferences with additional performances for each lesson group.

FULL REHEARSAL: Wednesdays and Fridays, 7:30-8:20 am
MASTER CLASS: Mondays, 7:30-8:20 am
PRIVATE PRACTICE: Tuesdays, 7:30-8:20 am
JAZZ ENSEMBLE: Thursdays, 7:30-8:20 am

The Wildcat Jazz Ensemble

The Wildcat Jazz Ensemble is a lesson group made up of Concert Band students who have played for 3-5 years. These lessons have an emphasis on jazz literature, style, and improvisation. Additional performances include the Intermediate Winter Concert, Wildcats at the West, and the Spring Jazz Tour.

The Wildcat Jazz Ensemble rehearses once a week on Wednesday mornings from 7:30-8:20 am.

Intermediate Band

Intermediate Band is for students in their second year of playing. This class focuses on continuing to learn technique, musicality, terminology, and playing as a full ensemble. Performances for the Intermediate Band include the Winter Concert, Solo & Ensemble Festival, and the Spring Concert.

The Intermediate Band rehearses every Thursday after school from 3:25 to 4:15 p.m. at Jefferson. Lessons happen once a week in school on a rotating schedule.

Prep Band

Prep Band is for all students in their first year of playing a band instrument. Students learn assembly, care and cleaning, proper posture/embouchure/sticking, basic technique, terminology, and musical concepts. Performances include the Introductory Concert and Spring Concert.

Prep Band rehearses every Tuesday at Jefferson from 3:25-4:15 pm. Lessons happen once a week in school on a rotating basis.
