CONCERT ORCHESTRA (3rd – 5th year players)
- Full group rehearsal every WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY – 7:30 AM – 8:20 AM.
- One in school lesson on a rotating period schedule every week (students will be given separate schedules).
- Monday, Tuesday and Thursday will be used for sectionals and private practice. Sectionals are for small combined groups of instruments and rehearse from 7:30 AM – 8:20 AM. Private practice is an opportunity for students to receive extra help on their music as needed. These sessions run from 8:00 AM – 8:20 AM. Students do not need to sign up ahead of time if they wish to come to a private practice session – they only need to show up at 8:00 AM and their director will assist them.
Concert Orchestra members are able to choose between 3 different lesson groups.
Wildcat Jazz All lessons would be done in a jazz format. This class meets with the Band Jazz Ensemble students. Students would study jazz/rock/Latin/ballad styles, do improv, learn blues scales, etc. Possible PERFORMANCES would be: Intermediate Concert, Swingin’ at the Shalimar, Jazz Elementary Tour.
Ensemble Lessons would be about learning how to play in small groups, such as duets, trios, and other large ensembles. Students would learn a variety of pieces throughout the year. Possible PERFORMANCES would be: Solo & Ensemble Festival, VFW Winter Performance, Swingin’ at the Shalimar & 8th Grade Graduation.
Technique class. Students would spend the bulk of their time working out of the lesson book, and learning scales, more notes, and various pieces in the book. NO EXTRA PERFORMANCES would be given for those who choose Technique Class.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL ORCHESTRA
Intermediate Orchestra meets after school on Thursdays from 3:15 – 4:10 PM at Jefferson Middle School.
Students also receive one lesson during the school day each week.
PREP ORCHESTRA
Prep Orchestra is for all students in their first year of playing an orchestra instrument. Students learn assembly, care and cleaning, bowing, plucking, proper posture, basic technique, terminology and musical concepts. Performances include the introductory Demonstration Concert and the Spring Concert.
Prep Orchestra rehearses every Tuesday at Jefferson from 3:15-4:10 PM.
Lessons happen once a week during school time on a rotating basis.
